My parents were both born into non-church going families and only came to know Jesus after going along to a sermon at a church they were hoping to get married in. They had never heard about him before, but found his offer of life so attractive that they committed to following him right then and there. Once my brother and I were born they taught us that Jesus had died for us and would pray with us every night before bed.
I was sure that God was my father from a very young age, but I wasn't quite sure why Jesus had bothered dying for me! It was only when I went on a Christian activity holiday at the age of 16 that I understood that, at the cross, Jesus had made it possible for me to know God fully and have complete access to him. I realised that my whole life had to change in response.
Having a relationship with God is an amazing privilege and asking him for his help every day and knowing he cares for me is an incredible comfort. It's often hard to match the realities of life with his character, but I know that he never changes and that his promises always come true. I'm excited about living with him forever in the new creation once this life is over!
